Senior Loader Operator (Pit/Quarry) - Job description

Summary 

Reporting to the Executive Director and Dispatch the senior loader operator is responsible for the management of the pit operations, the management of pit inventory levels, and the supervision of the blending and manufacturing of our landscape products.

 Responsibilities

  • Perform pre operation inspections of equipment and rectify if practical or report to supervisor.
  • Monitor equipment performance and immediately report deficiencies
  • Install, operate and remove attachments on grinder, loader, excavator, screener, stacker and other equipment used in production.
  • Lubricate equipment per manufacturer recommendations and top up fluids as necessary.
  • Safely and respectfully operate excavators, rock trucks, crawlers, loaders, screeners, stackers, grinders and/or other equipment to meet daily plan and production targets.
  • Effective communication using a 2-way radio system
  • Understand and adhere to all policies, procedures and standards
  • Train on new equipment when requested
  • Take care to utilize materials to their fullest extent looking for opportunities to save or reuse materials where possible.
  • Direct and load trucking within the pit for safe and effective loading
  • Supervise and direct other crew members working in pit operations
  • Keep up to date in industry knowledge and skills by participating in related training, and sharing this knowledge with staff
  • Work with others in a team environment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Monitor and provide direction on pit inventory levels
  • Oversee and perform blending of soils, grinding of mulch using tub grinder
  • Use excavator from time to time to access materials

Technical Competencies: 

  • Experience operating various equipment in a construction environment;
  • Applied and demonstrated ability to operate equipment according to manufacturer recommendations
  • Worked in and or around construction sites.
  • Worked in a pit or quarry operation loading trucks, screening plants, and conveyors
  • Self directed and able to plan work objectives
  • Applied knowledge of

o   grades

o   slopes

o   Typical loading capacities of trucks

o   soil and aggregate types including approximate weight and density.

o   loading and receiving materials

o   Able to estimate and measure stockpiles

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds over short distances.
  • Expertise and proven experience with safe workplace initiatives.
  • A valid NS driver's licence.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle considered an asset.

Compensation will depend on proven experience.
