Tandem Dump Truck Driver - Job description

Summary 

Reporting directly to dispatch the Tandem Dump Driver operates Tandem Axle Dump Trucks to transport goods and materials over urban and rural routes as well as on construction jobsites and quarry’s for outside clients and internal requirements.

 Responsibilities

  • Safely and respectfully operate and drive a Tandem Dump to transport goods from one point to another.
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post trip inspections of vehicle systems, equipment and accessories such as tires, lights and turning signals and brakes
  • Lubricate equipment per manufacturer recommendations and top up fluids as necessary.
  • Keep vehicle in clean and tidy state of appearance
  • Monitor vehicle performance and inform dispatch or the maintenance manager of any concerns pertaining to vehicles mechanical or safety components.
  • Ensure load is properly loaded and balanced and tarped in accordance with regulations
  • Obtain any special permits from dispatching required for transportation
  • Understand and adhere to all policies, procedures and standards
  • Record transportation hours and billing information for customer deliveries
  • Clearly and effectively communicate via 2-way radio with dispatcher and other vehicles
  • Keep up to date in industry knowledge and skills by participating in related training, and sharing this knowledge with staff
  • Work with others in a team environment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Competencies 

  • Great customer service as you will be dealing with the public
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings and guidelines
  • Class 3 Drivers License w/ air brakes endorsement
  • Attention to detail and awareness of surroundings
  • Applied understanding of the workings of a construction site
  • Applied understanding of construction site safety including but not limited to overhead hazards and open excavations
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate effectively with co-workers
  • Able to use a GPS or smartphone effectively to plot route
  • Understanding of weigh scales and axle weights and basic knowledge of material weights/volumes
  • Have reliable transportation to and from our shop

Schedule/Hours:

  • Schedule to be +40 hours per week between Monday and Saturday
  • Pay is determined by years of demonstrated experience.
